The asphalt contractor has milled the east side of Greenwood Road and all of Glenview Road in preparation for asphalt paving starting late this week and carrying into next week. Additionally, the electrical contractor will be onsite working on the traffic signals at the intersection.

Water service work has begun on Greenwood Road. The service line from the water main to the yard shutoff valve (b-box) is being upgraded to a 1.5 inch diameter capacity for each home that currently has a smaller service line. Water service will be disrupted for a short time (up to 4 hours) during the day when the connection is made to the water main. Notices will be provided in advance of the water service disruption to allow you preparation time. If water appears discolored after the installation, please allow your faucet to run for several minutes beyond when the water flows clear. If no one is home when service is resumed, the Contractor will attempt to locate an outside hose faucet and turn it on to allow for clearing your system.

All storm sewer on the east side of Greenwood Road, south of Glenview Road has been completed.

Two sewer crews will continue to work on the storm sewer installation on the east side of Greenwood Road, north of Glenview Road.

The contractor is scheduled to start water main work on Glenview Road, east of Greenwood Road mid- to late next week (weather permitting). Between the hours of 9:00 A.M. and 3:00 P.M. eastbound traffic on Glenview Road will be shifted into the left turn lanes.

Phase II of construction has already begun! The contractor shifted traffic on August 19 to the temporary pavement, which allows for work to be completed without stopping traffic flow. The underground utility company has begun installation of storm sewer at the southern limits of the project, just south of Linneman Street, working towards the north.

Additionally, next week a second crew will be arriving to commence storm sewer installation from the northern limits of the project, just north of Springdale Avenue, working towards the south. The crews will meet at the intersection on Glenview Road and Greenwood Road in the coming weeks.

A third crew may be seen onsite periodically removing various existing items, such as curb and gutter and sidewalk.

New Traffic Pattern Next Week

The temporary pavement for Phase I of construction is being placed today and the beginning of next week. Traffic will be shifted mid-next week and storm sewer installation will commence.

The temporary traffic signals have been installed. The poles were put in place last week, and the signal heads and wiring were begun this week. The installation of these temporary signals is complete, but they have not yet been turned on. This operation will not affect traffic.

The contractor will be onsite tomorrow to begin traffic control set up, tree protection and tree removal. The trees to be removed were tagged, per Village ordinance, a couple weeks ago. Saw cutting of the existing curb will start tomorrow as well, and actual concrete removal will commence this Friday at the earliest.

The strike was resolved last week and new contracts between the unions and contractors have been signed and are in effect.

Strike Continues

As of this morning, the strike continues. The Unions and the Contracting Companies are still in negotiations and have not yet reached an agreement. It is our understanding that the next scheduled meeting is set for Monday, July 19.

Thank you for your ongoing patience during the Village construction project adjacent to your home. At this time, the Village has been notified that Chicagoland Construction Labor Unions are going on strike. The conflict is between the Contracting Companies and the Unions, not involving the Village.

Work has therefore been temporarily shut down on your street. We are insuring that all construction sites are safe to the general public and will continue to actively monitor each site.

As of today, we do not have any information on how long this strike could last. We will inform you when this issue is resolved and work will resume.

Public utilities (such as NICOR, Ameritect, WOW, etc.) have been relocating their utilities that are in conflict with the proposed intersection improvements.

The Village is scheduling a meeting in advance of the construction to share with the public the Contractor’s intended construction schedule and details concerning this much needed improvement.
